The Desire of Our Hearts Investment Stewardship If I Were The Devil

I write this letter with a burn in my heart for our country and its people that positive change can happen. You and I can help to make a positive difference in our culture. I want to emphasize positive difference because we are experiencing the negative difference. The evidence of the Columbine High School shooting tragedy is symptomatic of our "out-of-control" society.

We have become a greedy, self-indulgent, self-reliant, Godless society. History has shown over and over that when we put our hope and faith in anything other than God, our society crumbles, decays and falls. Examples of past history of the rise and fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, Rome, and Israel, indicate this truth.

Growing up as a child, I was taught the Ten Commandments as a positive measure for priorities in my life. "Have no other God before me."  We can list some of the priorities that our society has before God: Work, Money, Family, Leisure and Self Indulgence (If it feels good, do it) (Me first, others last.)

Many of us have put these priorities in a different order. For others, many other areas of concern come before the Maker and Creator of this universe. I personally struggle with all of the above.

One way that we can make a positive difference is to stand up for values that are right, good and pure. There are many companies profiting from the pollution of our citizens' thinking of right and wrong, good and bad, purity and corruption. These are issues that affect our culture and its future!  We live in a society that thinks that bigger is better, he that has the most toys wins, the wealthy are respected no matter how the wealth was obtained, and power is revered. Our decision-making process in corporate America is based upon bottom line profit. Unfortunately, it is not based on whether it is right, good, honest or pure!  Our role models are rock stars and athletes. Why have we overlooked as role models, the teacher, coach, Sunday school teacher, father and mother?

If we reject those companies that have made a choice to profit from their contribution to moral pollution, then we reward those companies that are standing firm to making a difference in positive cultural change!

By supporting companies who focus on the wrong issues we are ultimately destroying our culture.  It is time that each of us gets our priorities in line and starts supporting companies who are making a difference by focusing on positive cultural change!
